WHAT SHOULD I DO IF MY DAUGHTER IS INTERESTED IN COMPETITIVE GYMNASTICS?
WHAT AGE ARE GYMNASTS ALLOWED TO BEGIN PRE-TEAM OR COMPETITIVE TEAM?
PRE-TEAM: Age 5, or any age over 5.
HOT SHOTZ: Age 3 or 4
LITTLE PRE-TEAM: Age 4
COMPETITIVE TEAM: Age 5 or 6, or any age over 6.
WHAT SKILLS ARE NEEDED FOR PRE-TEAM?
BARS: Glide swing. 2 foot pullover. Cast back hip circle.
BEAM: Lever to flat table top, lever back to lunge. Hold relevé lock position 5 seconds. Straight jump. Pivot turn. Not afraid of heights.
FLOOR: Handstand. Cartwheel. Bridge up kick over. Backward roll.
VAULT: Straight jump from board & stick landing. Kick to handstand fall to flat back on mat.
- Have your child talk to her coach about her interest in competitive gymnastics.
- Let the office staff know that your child is interested in competitive gymnastics.
- The office staff, or your child's coach, will be able to tell you how your child is doing with the skills needed for competitive gymnastics. You can also see skill progress through the parent portal.
- Taking a second class, or adding in private lessons, is a great way to achieve the skills necessary for pre-team more quickly.
- When our coaches have a child/or children in their group accomplishing the skills needed for pre-team the coach will let the office staff know.
- Our competitive team is built from children in our pre-team program (Hot Shotz, Little Pre-Team, Pre-Team) See the next section for more information about our pre-team program.
